Do or Do Not, there is no Try.

One of the wisest elders of our time stated this line in one of the most successful movies of all-time. Do you remember who it was that said it? Yoda! That’s right…..all 3 feet of him! And although the line didn’t necessarily set into my 8 year-old mind at the time, I have found this line to have so much power when it’s applied to any area of my life. Whether it be personally or professionally.

If you are going to do something, why not go into it with the mindset of doing it at your very best ability? Somewhere in our growing up we began to learn that over-analyzing and judging our own decisions was the way to go….when in all reality what is stopping each of us from truly succeeding at the level we deserve is ourselves!

Take the word “try” itself…..when someone asks you to come over for dinner….and your reply is “I’ll try”….are you going to be there? NO! Or if someone tells you they need a report by Monday…..and your reply is “I’ll try and get that to you”….is it going to be done? NO! Or more than likely it won’t be. We have created this “try” culture in our society that is non-committal. And until you decide in your own life that you are going to truly achieve the things you set out to do, you will continue to be a part of this “try” culture. Take a stand and listen and apply the teachings of Yoda. DO or DO NOT, there is no Try.

Begin the journey today of committing to things. Do or Do Not. Learn to say no to things, prioritize all the things you have going on, de-commit from some things that are no longer on the top of your list, so you can accomplish things at a level 10 versus doing things at a level 4, 5 or 6. You don’t deserve that, nor does the people in your life. Choose to commit today to DOING things or NOT DOING things….no more “Trying”….your life is way too valuable for that.
