Life Lesson #10 of my first 40 years: Understand that I am the problem.
I never really liked reading books growing up, but once I got into the business world, I found myself captivated by all of the wonderful wisdom that could be found in books.
The book that really started my evolution in life to who I am today was “Flight of the Buffalo” by Belasco and Stayer. At the end of one of the chapters was a Leadership Solution and it stated:
Understand that I am the problem. Accepting that enables me to be the solution.
That statement completely changed everything for me. No longer was I going to be a whiner, complainer, or one who blames others for my results in my life. I decided that I was accountable to who I was and what I had achieved. Even if I didn’t think I was fully responsible for the outcome, I still took ownership of being a part of it or an influence on it.
That empowerment has led to incredible progress over the past 15 years since applying the wisdom from Belasco and Stayer – I encourage you to do the same.
