Strengths Based Leadership by Rath and Conchie

This book is a “follow up” of sorts to the StrengthsFinder 2.0 book that was and continues to be a great resource for the development of yourself and the people within organizations. This book was a very straight forward, easy read that kept me engaged and provided many reminders and stories to focus on my strengths versus allowing my weaknesses to garner my attention. It is fascinating to me to see how I have “evolved” since the last time I took the StengthsFinder test a few years back. I believe you will find this book to be a valuable addition to your life – personally and professionally and definitely should be a part of your Success Library!

3 of the main lessons that I have taken away from this book are:

1. Be yourself as a Leader. As a leader you must know your strengths and use them, otherwise you will be out of your “natural” element and it may eliminate your chance for success.

2. My strengths are Learner, Achiever, Belief, Responsibility, and Positivity. Spot on. I love the idea of having this type of “framework” to continue to use my strengths for the betterment of the people I work with and/or are serving.

3. Followers are just as critical to success as the Leader. The Followers, according to a Gallup survey, have 4 “basic needs” in order to be fully engaged, they are: Trust, Compassion, Stability and Hope. I believe this to be a huge reminder that RELATIONSHIPS is the key to successful leadership as these characteristics are built only through building strong relationships with your people.

I highly recommend this book to be a part of your Personal R & D my friends – take the time to purchase the book, read it, do the survey and begin to apply the principles and your strengths to your life and I believe you will see immediate impact – personally and professionally.
